Learning Intentions
  • I can analyze how the perspective and background of a narrator shapes writing choices.
  • I can analyze how style and content contribute to the effectiveness of the text.
Agenda
  • Discuss Mid-Book Analysis...
    • What is this book about so far? (Not what happens, not who the characters are, but what themes or ideas is it exploring? What is its purpose or message?)
    • How would you describe the style of the writing? (Style creates “voice” for an author. Style consists of an author's word choice, figurative language use, and sentence/paragraph structure.) Is this descriptive and showy? Is it sparse and abrupt? Think of what kind of emotions you have in response to the WAY it is written, not just what it’s written about.
    • Describe the perspective of the narrator. Go deeper than just 1st or 3rd person. What does the author show us through the narration? Think about what the author is showing us and when we are seeing these things in the book.
      • If the book is written in 1st person, what are the characteristics of the narrator that may shape their view of the world around them?
      • If the book is in 3rd person, what view are we gettin of characters and how does that view influence us as readers?
  • Raed
