Do now
  • Fill out the "Daily Check in"
  • Write down two things you learned, practiced, or thought about in English last week.
  • Write down two things you learned in ANY class last week.

Expectations for discussion
I am prepared for this
  • Being prepared by having read my text thoroughly and reflectively and by having marked key passages in my text
  • Asking questions about what I have read, heard, and seen
  • Making judgments that I can defend with specific textual evidence
  • Explaining to others how I have inferred an idea by exploring the passage that has led me to this conclusion
  • Asking for clarification of any passage I have read but which I do not understand
  • Being courteous and respectful of my peers and lending support to a peer’s argument
  • Commenting on what my peer has said before going on to make my point
  • Searching for connections between other concepts or readings we have done in this class or the world at large.

Agenda
Prepare for Socratic discussion over "The Yellow Wallpaper" tomorrow.
  1. Review and reread “The Yellow Wallpaper,” annotating and making note of your thoughts and/or responses to these open-ended questions.
  2. Read "Why I wrote the Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
  3. Attempt to answer the BIG QUESTION: Explain how the first-person narration and word choice of the “Yellow Wallpaper” influences the overall purpose of the story?
  4. Complete at least two of the discussion starters on the Socratic discussion sheet.
