    1. PLOT - write down the 8 most important events of this play in order.
      CHARACTER AND CONFLICT
    2. In Act I of The Crucible, which two characters do not want to participate in the work of Mr. Hale?
    3. How do Abigail's motives start the panic about witchcraft in Salem?
    4. Is Rev. Hale a good person? Why or why not? How do his actions influcnce the plot?
      MAIN IDEAS
    5. Why do salem residents want to pursue the witch hunt in act 1. 
    6. How do Abigail Williams' actions and motives drive the plot forward?
      DEVELOPMENT
    7. Miller begins his play with some background on the witch trials, laying out two central ideas he is going to explore: 1. “The witch hunts were a perverse manifestation of the panic which set in among all classes when the balance begin to turn towards greater individual freedom.” And 2., “Social disorder in any age breeds such mystical suspicions” and “it is too much to expect people to hold back very long from laying on their victims with all the force of their frustrations” Explain what one of these ideas means in your own words and explain how you see Miller introducing this idea in the first act?
