Read and annotate the poem “Half-Hanged Mary” located on the table at the front of the room. ANNOTATION literally means "to make critical or explanatory notes or comment on a written work." Check out the image below for a GREAT example of what looks like annotation. So, as you read the poem “Half-Hanged Mary” I want you to implement the following annotation techniques.

• Summarize what’s going on in each stanza in one short sentence
• Underline powerful words or images, be sure to underline at least 2 per stanza
• Make connects or ask questions
• Define words if you need to
