  • SSR
  • Starting today, I will start tracking and grading SSR time and update grades weekly.
    A = 90% of days with SSR book and on task
    B = 80% of days with SSR book and on task
    C = 70% of days with SSR book and on task
    D = 60% of days with SSR book and on task
    F = 50% of days with SSR book and on task

AGENDA
  • Complete Assessment 1.3 Character Analysis  (in google classroom)
    • I can identify and explain character actions, traits, and/or important quotations).
    • I can analyze a character to examine what their goals and motivations are OR what we are learning from the character.
    • I can use quoted evidence AND reasoning to support an analysis of the character.
  • Read Chapter 6 (Audiobook)
    • When you reach the following points stop and reflect on these prompts. 
      • Highlight 3 words you're unfamiliar with and attempt to use context clues to  definite it.
      • Bottom of p. 58 - Summarize Gatsby's real background.
      • Bottom of p. 63 - Reflect, how does this party feel different from the first party?
      • End of the chapter - Ask an interpretive question about the chapter. 
        • example: Why does Fitzgerald include this chapter about a sad and mostly underwhelming party?
    • Comprehension questions (to test your own understanding)
      • 1.  What is revealed about Jay Gatsby aka “James Gatz”?
      • 2. What was Dan Cody’s flaw? How might this relate to Gatsby?
      • 3. What did Dan leave Gatsby? What happened?
      • 4. When Nick next sees Gatsby, surprisingly who is with him?
      • 5. Gatsby invites Tom to stay for dinner. What is the reaction and response?
      • 6. How does Nick feel at Gatsby’s party? What does Nick notice? 
      • 7. What does Tom accuse Gatsby of?
      • 8. What does Gatsby realize about Daisy’s feelings towards the party?
      • 9. The text states, “You can’t repeat the past.” Is this true?
