For your final exam, I'd like you to read a little journalism and analyze what makes it good.
Head to Longform, a website dedicated to passing along links to nonfiction writing. I'd like you to read one article of your choice. (Please realize up front that these articles are long and some of them discuss some disturbing and adult content.) If you are willing to dig, you'll probably find something you actually find interesting or care about. Use the "topics" menu on the left to get you deeper into the site. Also consider browsing the “Best of...” link.
After reading it, please write a response in a Google document (with a link to the article) completing these tasks:
Please summarize the article in five bulleted statements. These bullets should prove to me that you read the article.
Discuss in a well-formed, literary (not journalistic) paragraph (at least 200 words) what characteristics about the article reveal that it is good journalism? Quote specifics from the article to explain your point.
Personal reaction: In a paragraph, write about what strikes you as interesting about your article?
When finished, post your response onto your blog and makes sure Mr. Restad has a link to your site.
