Example: I am going to write about Junior’s struggles between two communities and how they help make him who he is. Then, change the sentence, removing any personal pronouns (I, you, we, etc.). The struggles and experiences between the two communities of which Junior is a part of actually help him develop a stronger sense of self-identity. The use of Junior's awkward, but extroverted nature strengthens the idea that Junior feels out of place in a single community and wants to go beyond societal expectations. Given that Junior still feels out of place in both white and Native American communities, the author is trying to show that there is more to a person than just a single, stereotypical view of the world. INTRODUCTION Introduce the book, the characters you’re going to talk about, and a ONE SENTENCE summary of what you think the book is about.. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie's semi-autobiographical Native American protagonist, Arnold "Junior" Spirit, transfers to a predominantly white high school 22 miles away from his reservation in order to pursue educational success.
