Rhetoric is defined as language designed to have a persuasive or influencing effect on its audience. Basically, it means what is the author saying and how is he or she saying it. For the following assignment, consider the following thee definitions of the elements of Rhetoric.
Logic: the text of the argument, as well as how well a writer has argued his/her point.
Credibility: the role of the writer in the argument, and how credible his/her argument is.
Emotions: the role of the audience in the argument, or how does he use emotions to affect a reader.

Read the text attached below and be prepared to discuss these questions.
  1. To begin, you might have to consider what the purpose of the essay is. Why did he write it?
  2. Now, considering what you think his purpose is, what are two examples of your group’s assigned rhetorical device? How do these devices help to achieve his purpose?
  3. This essay is divided into two sections. Why? How would you describe the arrangement of the material? How does this reflect Alexie’s purpose? Provide examples to back up your answers.
