Finished Way to Rainy Mountain Comprehension assignment.
Began working on "The Way to Rainy Mountain" - Purpose and Tone Analysis after looking at the expectations for paragraph structure.
EXAMPLE: TS: “The Way to Rainy Mountain” highlights the experience of Momaday’s people, the Kiowa, in order to show the trials of what his tribe went through. S: Momaday uses the story of the U.S cavalry stopping his tribe’s sacred sun dance to show that the United States paid no regard for the religious practices of the Kiowa people. By forbidding the Kiowa tribe from exercising their faith, the Kiowas “backed away from the medicine tree forever” (Momaday 60). D: Surely, this loss was more devastating than being stripped of their land. C: Without the security and freedom of religion, the Kiowa became non existent in a theoretical sense. Largely in the U.S. culture, people are taught of the victories of the U.S. cavalries. However, Momaday writing about and revealing the trials he and his people endured, gave the reader a new sense of empathy and sympathy for the Kiowas.
